New music I discover and old music that I love. Shows and festivals I will attend. Yay music

Ellie Goulding has just unveiled a cover she made, with the help of Xaphoon Jones on productions, of The Weeknd’s cinematic song “High For This,” the opening track of the Toronto artist’s debut mixtape House Of Balloons, and it is just pure bliss. On repeat (download it for free here).
RIP Ian Curtis. 32 years… that’s insane. Rest In Peace you troubled soul.
Summer is here which means outdoor music season is finally upon us! The best part about being in Chicago is outside of the major summer festivals, which are Pitchfork and Lollapalooza, there are street festivals almost every weekend that include really great bands! Some bands I am hoping to catch at some street festivals this summer include:
The Weeknd at Lincoln Hall on May 3rd, 2012. Thanks celluloidandsoles!

Procrastinating time. Here is the list of albums I have listened to this year. No order but Beach House is my pick for AOTY at this point

It was almost exactly a decade before thedeath of Steve Jobs that I realised he was about to fundamentally change my life.
On a plane to LA, stacking the twenty CDs I might want to listen to on the journey onto my tiny, bent and broken…
Lolla 3-day passes sold out in about 2 weeks which means they are selling less this year or that many people really enjoyed the lineup. Since they are now selling single day tickets, they had to release who is playing each day. We won’t get the schedule for a few more months, but this works just as well.
Friday:
“Black” Friday at Lolla this year. Black Keys and Black Sabbath will be closing down the festival that night. Interesting to see Sabbath play on Friday but I am sure its for safety reasons if they have to cancel. Easily picking Black Sabbath because this may be one of the last time they ever play and Black Keys will be at Lolla within the next 2-3 years. Other bands I am excited to see on Friday include: M83, Metric, The Head and The Heart, Tame Impala, Sharon van Etten and The War on Drugs.
Saturday:
The worst headline match up of the weekend. I have no desire to see either RHCP or Avicii, but to make up for it Lolla gave me The Weeknd and Franz Ferdinand. Santigold is likely to close out Perry’s so I will likely be enjoying her music to end the night. Undercard is the main draw on Saturday, joining the bands I mentioned above included: Frank Ocean, tUnE-yArDs, Twin Shadow, The Tallest Man on Earth, Alabama Shakes, Neon Indian, Washed Out and Chairlift. Conflicts are going to be gut-wrenching on this day.
Sunday:
Out of the six bands that are headliners, the two I really wanted to see were Jack White and Justice. So naturally Lolla books them to play against each other to close out the festival. The choice is easy and I will be ended Lolla 2012 listening to Jack White. The biggest conflict is going to be between Florence and the Machine going agaisnt At the Drive In. I am guessing on that one but seeing how they are totally different musically and are the 2nd and 3rd billed bands on Sunday, I am guessing they will each take a sub spot. I hope Lolla does it right and has Sigur Ros playing the side stage before Jack White. Not a better way to end the festival then that. Sunday is killer for the big acts on the day, but the easily have the weaket undercard. Other acts I am excited to see on Sunday: Of Monsters and Men, Dum Dum Girls, The Walkmen, Bombay Bicycle Club, Bowerbirds, and the Big Pink
Way to early to call which day is the best, but Saturday is the best bet to take the cake right now.
